The best post-race food you’ll ever have

When the Great Bear Chase does an awards program, you know it’s going to be great. It’s part of our name!
This year that includes some of the best pasties you’ll ever have, delicious gluten-free options that will knock your socks off and of course our famous raffle that has some of the best prizes you could ask for.

Four-Time Champion Pasties
GBC Food 01Let’s start with the pasties, which come from Connie’s Kitchen in Laurium. These pasties are the best the Keweenaw has to offer, as evidence by the restaurant being the four-time PastyFest champion.
Four-time champion. Holy wha.
“These are your traditional pasties,” said Connie Hella, the owner and maker of the pasties. “People come in every day to get these pasties.”
It’s an up-north tradition for many people to eat the pasties, and something we want our GBC participants, who come from all over the Midwest and world to experience.

Gluten-Free Fix
The one problem at the awards that we’ve heard about in the past is that we don’t have great gluten-free/vegetarian options. NO LONGER.
We’ve picked the best people in town to work with us to create the perfect mix of gluten-free options for our racers, the good people at Café Rosetta.
Patrick and Carley Williams have been working hard on the menu, and we hope those that are looking for gluten- or meat-free food will enjoy the options.
For those of you that aren’t eating gluten free, we ask politely that you sink your teeth into those award-winning pasties. You won’t regret it. If that’s not going to work for you, make sure to ask and we’ll hook you up with some scrumptious food from Café Rosetta.

Win all the equipment you need to be even better in 2014
GBC Raffle 02High-end ski gear could be all yours Saturday after the race. That’s because Cross Country Sports will once again be having a raffle for some of the best gear in the business.
This year’s big-ticket items include top-end racing skis and poles, plus dozens of other sweet prizes as well.

The best part of all of this? For participants in the 2013 Portage Health Great Bear Chase Ski Marathon, it’s FREE. Register today, and we’ll see you in Calumet soon!
