The Portage Health Great Bear Chase Ski Marathon is overwhelmingly proud to be chosen as a member of the American Ski Marathon Series for 2014.
The ASM is North America’s longest-running, and largest citizen’s racing and touring series. The GBC is one of 16 premier ski marathons and winter festivals to participate.
Events are spread across the continent, running from Vermont to Alaska, and everywhere in between. Events for the series begin Jan. 25 with the Noquemanon Ski Marathon in Marquette, and finish on March 16 with the California Gold Rush in Soda Springs, California.
The Great Bear Chase was started in 1981, and has a reputation for being the best late-season ski marathon in the Midwest. It takes place in one of the only areas in the U.S. with enough snow to host a competitive ski marathon in March year after year.
Highlighted by 50k freestyle and classic skiing events, the GBC features a busy weekend in Michigan’s Keweenaw Peninsula with seven total ski races, including a children’s ski race, a snow bike race and much more. Visit GreatBearChase.com to learn more about the event.
