The 80+ age group might not be the largest for the upcoming Great Bear Chase, but you can’t argue with the fact that these participants have earned their award!
For the 33rd annual race, the Portage Health Great Bear Chase Ski Marathon is creating a new age group specifically for these racers, most of whom have been skiing these types of races since well before Sam Malone and Norm Peterson were sitting around a Boston bar.
“These are some of our most passionate skiers,” Race Director Angela Luskin said. “Every year these people come out and show how timeless cross country skiing really can be.”
Along with adding an 80+ group this year, the GBC also simplified the rest of the groupings for the 26k and 50k races by moving them from five-year increments to 10-year increments. The 14k races will have three divisions; 18-and-under, 19-14 and 50+. Learn more about each race and see a full listings of age divisions on our Race Guide.
